In response to a non-figure skating thing... if you can figure out how to DM me, I can make you a net bag that isn't French but is awesome! I recently found a knitting pattern for these that I love.

Honestly that’s not how I read Haein’s texts at all. The age gap makes it way more uncomfortable than teenagers being stupid (which they still were). Haein and Young should have known better and I will never be able to see their skates the same again. Especially after all the bullying skater C received for the whole incident.

Curious to know more about your take. I had a hard time following this one because it seemed like I was losing something in the translation, and there was a lot of back and forth. And then I saw something on Twitter (I think?) where Korean fans were saying that the Korean public was on her side that she was treated unfairly. Of course, just because the public is on your side, doesn't mean you're in the right.

Yeah this one gets confusing. But I’ll start with the age gap. Haein and Young are adults now, (and were when the incident happened), he’s still young enough to not make the cutoff to be even considered for the Olympic team. That kind of thing just isn’t something that’s comfortable whatsoever. The relationship did start prior to Haein turning 18, but still. Then, getting drunk and inviting a minor to the room isn’t a good choice either and even more so because it was explicitly against the rules. I can understand her wanting him back, that’s just being a teenager, but she was pressuring a lot and he didn’t seem to want that.

And here’s where things get dicey with consent because there’s a couple versions of the story, but it is unclear if he wanted or even knew what the hickey meant. Regardless, all of this happening under the influence when Haein was pressuring so much doesn’t help. And then Young took pictures of the entire thing, which even _Haein_ didn’t want.

So when the whole thing broke, and Haein was trying to defend herself, she shared those screenshots publicly. Which is a huge breach of privacy. Share them in court if you must, but don’t just put them on the internet. Now, because it’s the internet, everyone has opinions. And C started to get all the vitriol. If you’d been following them long enough, or even knew people who figured it out, there was only one option for a Junior male skater who was at the training camp. Like this bullying got to the point where it was even present in the YouTube chat for a major ISU event. Amber Glenn actually noticed it while watching the competition and commented about it, which is I think, part of the reason those were deactivated for the last couple of competitions in the season.

So while clearly a lot of this was motivated by teenage stupidity and insecurity, knowing all of it just doesn’t make me comfortable and I literally cannot watch or even hear about Haein and Young’s skating and not get that feeling.

Thanks for sharing all this! I appreciate you taking the time to write up a full explanation. All I can say is... Yikes. Give me Team Old skaters every day of the week.
