I will say I saw the fandom latch onto Bakerie before I saw anything from Marjorie and Jean-Luc about it. The other major option I saw was Jackie Wong almost immediately christening them LaKer which I thought was much worse (too close to the basketball team for one thing). LaBa is better than LaKer but I will admit to being partial to Bakerie. I'm not that precious about what fans call teams though as long as I know who they're referring to.
I'm not thrilled about the Russians coming back though I understand why it's happening. I will be livid if Kamila gets neutral status though. She's been a propaganda tool of Putin pretty much since the positive doping test happened, she should not be eligible to get neutral status.
I am really looking forward to seeing how Cui/Rodgers Sinners program develops over the season. It's very promising right now.
The way I feel about skater nicknames is the same way I feel about dog names-- two syllables or it's too much. However, as you are an actual Canadian, I respect your choice to go with Bakerie.
Thanks for introducing me to Cui and Rogers! Their Sinners program is indeed a delight, and I'm excited to root for them. American ice dance is stacked - the depth is kind of crazy. Can't believe I now care about the 10th best American ice dance team, because who has time for that much skating? Gotta wonder how many other teams I've been sleeping on, though, especially since I don't watch juniors😭
One of my fandom rules-- don't get attached to Juniors. They hit growth spurts or get injured or have a teen drama falling out with their partner and you're left heartbroken.
So glad to see this pop into my inbox! The "something but not nothing" about the Ilia announcement can never be overplayed...it is just too perfect. And I had the same exact thought about the rise of the Igor camp potentially at the expense of IAM. Ice dance has felt so same-y the last quad--especially with so many veteran teams sticking around--I think we all want to root for someone/something new and the judges might feel similarly!

Ha! They will. It's always later than you think is necessary. But then suddenly there's a new Challenger list released every week.

Oh that's so fair re: skater nicknames and dog names. I even agree most of the time. There's just something about Bakerie I find fun.

Toooootally agreed. My biggest wish this quad is for Ice Dance to feel unpredictable.
